Ridgecrest's desert climate supports several cockroach species โ German roaches indoors, Turkestan roaches in irrigation and outdoor areas, and American roaches from sewer connections. Bug bombs make every infestation worse.
๐ (760) 502-2811The dominant indoor cockroach in California. One female produces 30,000+ offspring annually. Lives entirely inside โ behind appliances, in cabinet voids, around plumbing. Does not go away without professional treatment.
An invasive species now dominant in Mojave Desert cities. Lives outdoors in irrigation boxes, utility vaults, and landscaping mulch โ and enters homes at night. Common throughout Ridgecrest.
Foggers are repellent โ they scatter cockroaches into wall voids and adjacent rooms. A concentrated problem becomes a diffuse one that's far harder to treat. Don't use them.
The large reddish-brown cockroach that enters through floor drains and sewer connections. More common in Ridgecrest's older housing near the downtown core.
Professional gel bait placed in harborage areas โ behind appliances, inside cabinet hinges, under sink plumbing, in wall void gaps โ is consumed by workers who return to the colony and infect others through contact. Unlike repellent products, cockroaches don't know to avoid it. The entire colony including egg cases is eliminated within 1โ2 weeks. We return to assess bait consumption and apply additional product where needed.
The Turkestan cockroach has largely replaced the oriental cockroach in California's desert cities over the past 20 years. It lives outdoors in irrigation control boxes, water meter vaults, and in the moist organic material around landscaping. At night it's attracted to indoor lighting. Treatment focuses on the outdoor harborage areas โ irrigation infrastructure and landscaping features โ rather than interior surfaces.
The irrigation boxes, water meters, and landscape drip systems that keep Ridgecrest's residential landscaping alive in the desert are prime Turkestan cockroach habitat. Every irrigated property in the city has these features, and most are harboring roach populations that aren't visible during daylight. Treatment of these outdoor infrastructure areas makes a significant difference in nighttime indoor cockroach encounters โ more so than interior-only treatment.
